Zuni Fetishes : Eagle: Protective and Hunting Animal of the Sky

Hunters when searching for small game such as rabbits used Eagle (K'yak'yali) fetishes. Eagles were also called upon to carry a shaman out of his body when searching for the cause of a patient's illness. Associated with illumination and revelation from higher powers. Early forms were simplistic with an "x" carved on the back to represent crossed wings. Modern eagle fetishes have become very detailed.
