Navajo horsehair pottery is created by applying actual horsehair to the finished pottery piece. Immediately after the prepared ceramic clay pot has been fired, a thin layer of horsehair is evenly spread over the top of the pottery. Precise temperatures are required to allow the horsehair to properly burn onto the the pottery, creating the unique marble effect. The pottery is then wiped with a matte glaze finish. Each piece is one of a kind.

This beautiful, authentic Navajo Pottery piece features a rainbow of colors etched onto a pot fired with horsehair, creating the fine dark lines scattered throughout. Exterior of this Native American pottery is glazed to a matte glow. This finely carved horsehair vase starts with white clay and then has a variety of colors from blue, red, green, gold and purples.
