Small 8″ Pipe with Beading and metal tomahawk with cutout bear paw. Embellishments include beads, feathers, claws, beaded trim, leather fringe, horsehair, arrowheads, and bone fetishes. Beads are made from metal, glass, and bone.

This pipe is usable as a pipe with copper tubing.

Description

The Indians had made pipes for a thousand years before Columbus reached the New World.

Pipe styles varied from tribe to tribe evolving into a wide variety of shapes and sizes.

Pipes held an important place in both social and ceremonial observances.

For the council or ceremonial pipe, known as the “Peace Pipe” or Calumet, a real reverence has always been felt.

Even when Tomahawk Pipe’s such as this one were introduced by the European Traders, they became an integral part of Indian life, and the true meaning of the Indian Pipe continued to prevail.
