This gorgeous, finely crafted Navajo horsehair pot was created by master artisan Milton Joe and is a fantastic example of heirloom quality Native American pottery. This horsehair pot is made with red clay and features Navajo etchings with red, gold, and blue. The pot contains many dark lines created when the horsehair is placed on the pottery piece and fired. This original piece of pottery art is certified authentic.

Description

Navajo horsehair pottery is created by applying actual horsehair to the finished pottery piece. Immediately after the prepared ceramic clay pot has been fired, a thin layer of horsehair is evenly spread over the top of the pottery. Precise temperatures are required to allow the horsehair to properly burn onto the pottery, creating the unique marble effect. The horsehair pottery is then wiped with a matte glaze finish. Each of these Navajo horsehair pots are one of a kind.
The horse is highly regarded in many cultures, representing the essence of stamina, agility, beauty and strength. This Native American pottery is made with those values in mind.
