Navajo horsehair pottery is created by applying actual horsehair to the finished pottery piece. Immediately after the prepared ceramic clay pot has been fired, a thin layer of horsehair is evenly spread over the top of the pottery. Precise temperatures are required to allow the horsehair to properly burn onto the the pottery, creating the unique marble effect. The pottery is then wiped with a matte glaze finish. Each piece is one of a kind.

This beautiful, authentic Navajo made Pottery piece features a rainbow of colors etched onto a pot fired with horsehair, creating fine dark lines scattered throughout. This piece starts with white clay and has colors that range from red, orange, purple, and blue. The exterior is glazed to a matte glow.
