Navajo horsehair pottery is created by applying actual horsehair to the finished pottery piece. Immediately after the prepared ceramic clay pot has been fired, a thin layer of horsehair is evenly spread over the top of the pottery. Precise temperatures are required to allow the horsehair to properly burn onto the the pottery, creating the unique marble effect. The pottery is then wiped with a matte glaze finish. Each piece is one of a kind.
This beautiful Native American pottery, an authentic Navajo Pottery piece, features a rainbow of colors etched onto a white-tone pot fired with horsehair. Placing horsehair in clay during the firing process creates fine dark lines scattered throughout. The colors on this horsehair pot range from mauve, green, blue, red, yellow, and gold. This horsehair dreamcatcher vase has a small dreamcatcher web design front and center with 5 bears circling the rim of the vase. This horsehair vase is glazed to a matte glow.
